HISTOLOGY AND PENETRATION 1. Immediate tissue contraction is accomplished via thermal denaturation of dermal collagen 2. Thermal disruption of epidermis and activation of fibroblasts stimulate a wound healing cascade necessary for neocollagenesis. It does not produce explosive vaporization and is more uniform than with ablative lasers because plasma does not depend on interaction with a chromophore. The procedure induces a formation of a dry membrane or scab on skin surface, which peels off few days after the treatment.
What can be expected during treatment? The area to be treated is cleansed and coated it with anesthetic cream that take effect within one hour. Once the procedure start heat sensation and a little pain may be felt. Following the procedure, small black or brown ‘carbon crusts’ on the treated area of skin will be present.
How long will it take to recover from the Plasma Wave procedure? After the treatment some swelling may be present, which should settle in 48 to 72 hours. The carbon crusts on the skin will normally disappear with 4 to 10 days. During this time the treated area cannot be touched or scratched , as it may cause pinkish skin discoloration (hypo- or hyper pigmentation). How many sessions are needed? The amount of sessions needed varies from patient to patient and their individual concerns. For eyelid lifts, for example, 3 or 4 sessions may be required, usually every 6 to 8 weeks. Is PLASMA WAVE permanent? The effect of the procedure is considered to be permanent. However, the ageing process continues. Follow up procedures may be needed to maintain the results.
